I got to be number 5 out of 57 ladies in my agegroup, and this means that I get a podium place in tomorrow evenings awards. This was my goal and I am happy.
Before the race Frank and me found around 25 women who would be my close competitors, evaluated from their qualificationtimes on the different races, and also previous times on Hawaii if they had raced here before.
Of these, 6 had posted very strong times, but as Frank analysed, some get injured, some break on the day, some are not good in the heat, some have bad tactics…… so at the end of the day, do your best, race with your heart and brain, and that is what I did.
My swim was ok, as good as I could hope, my bikerun didnt give me the advantage that I had hoped, but the racetactic was, to be sure, that i did not to blow up on the run. So i stayed cool, pushed on, and then i started to run the down, one by one on the run. I got many of them, and i payed of at the end. That is what triathlon is all about, you have to swim, bike and run, and that i did.
After the swim I was number 15, after the bike number 10, and after the run number 5 ….my goal.
So I am happy, looking forward to hear my name tomorrow evening, even I feel that the best reward was today, it is a birthday I will never forget, you could say that the sun in Kona, has burned it into my soul forever, a good memory.
I will post some photos as soon as I am home, and mabye some gossip from the rewards.
And in the end I want to say a big thank you for all you, who sent a lot of positive energy for me, to make a good race. I have got many messages and mails, and comments in my website. You where in my mind many times when I was in the lavafields, believe it or not, it was a great feeling! But without the support and fantastic help from my husband and coach, I would not have made this, thank you Frank!
See you out there…… or maybe not for a few days now
