This week I have been a bit around, and visited for instance a beautiful village in the middle of Dolomites, done some good cross-country again in the famous Val di Fiemme valley, where in 2013 the winter World Championships will be arranged. But is cross country good training for triathlon?
And if it is… why then?
Well, cross country skiing is building strength in all your body; arms, shoulders, core, legs. Does not matter if you do in the traditional way or you skate, you always build all your body.
The first times you will be pretty exhausted, I promise But when you continue with your exercising on the skis, and then later change on your bike or running shoes, you feel the difference in the strength on your legs.
But not only the legs, the pulling and pushing part in your swimming gets also more power as on the cross country skis, you have the good last push with your poles. This is reminding a bit of the push part in the crawl.
And never forget the core muscles, they are with all the way through when pushing speed with the poles on the cross country tracks. And the core is important, not only in swimming, biking and running, but just standing and walking, and having the good position of your body.
So, go cross country skiing, it is holiday time!
Me, I love to visit small places, and like this winter, I have always been lucky to find some good training possibilities, when I have been following Frank on his “tours”; either cross country, swimming, randonnee, running up the mountains sides and if not else, I have the TRX with me, and I train inside And the small villages are giving me a lot of energy with the beauty of them, and beauty of the surrounding nature
Happy winter holidays, go skiing, get new energy, and maybe a new way to enjoy your training!
