Yes I want to be my own hero, but of course i also have other heroes, like Briosi
Who is Briosi? He actually reminds me a bit of my father, in a way he looks like: legs filled with clean muscles , skin suntanned, face wrinkeled as spending lots of time outside and in the nature, full of energy for sports.
I got to know him via Sara, my good girlfreind by Lago di Garda, as she always rides with strong men (italian women are not so sporty generally, it is not easy to find a woman to train with, even if you are a local).
He is 58 years old, has stopped from the paper factory, where he once had a bad accident, as his arm years ago got broken in one of the machines in the factory.
He did always spend his freetime either trekking on the mountains with his wife or MTB, roadbiking, and when he stopped working 5 years ago, he started his “new life” and is riding every day (except monday, when is has his day-off from training). He preferes MTB but is also riding on a roadbike. And not only training but also racing. Almost every weekend during summertime!!
What makes him so special then:
– well he rides from you where ever: on the flat, on a steep climb, downhill, everywhere.
– He makes his interval on a climb and returns to you to make company
– he rides 4 hours with a small 0,3 waterbottle, when you yourself carry 2 x 0,7 liters energydrink on your bike, and get them filled up during the ride
When we met him at 8 in the morning for our 5 hours ride, he had already been riding for an hour “just by the Lake” as he said ” as I anyway get up at 5, eat my breakfast, and start to get ready for my ride around 6.30-7. And this same he did every morning
But you know, most of all, he smiles ! You can feel that he loves to ride the bike, and to train his body. It is just a part of him.
So if I want to look at my hero from the mirror when I am 58, I hope it will be something alike
