Raceday – 2nd but hard lessons to be learned

First I must admit, I am a bad looser :-( Even I got to the podium as nr 2
and was 22nd  out of 93 started  women (PRO women included).
There is just always something more to learn in this sport!

Actually, I had a super swim and bike, and felt like having good running legs as well – at least in the beginning…
But then !!!!… and my run was a disaster.
Why? Well, first I don’t see them, I just think I was a bad day for the run, but…………after talking to my coach we found 2 mistakes, and they cost me the 1st place today.
It doesn’t actually matter what they are …the mistakes  (yes to me, and it makes me sad and frustrated, for some hours)
but finding them, is all about taking responsibility of your race and what you do in the race.
Not to believe that they just happen, and “how unlucky am I……” (or that is what my coach says, even it is hard to hear)

So today went like it went, and so,  I need to think again, about the qualification race to Kona next year, as well as Kona, if I get there.  Do I really want to try, do I want it , and why.
In Ironman races there is no place for mistakes, in case the goal is to get to Kona. There is just one spot for the women in my age group, and there is alway some tuff and good girls (or maybe I need to say ladies ;-) ) , so all has to go in box on the raceday!
Again, this race showed for me, that to race half or full Ironman, it is not just training that matters, but the mental side is at least as important part of the game, and experience is nothing worth, unless you use it.

Now I will go to Christmas holiday, and make some thoughts about the races next year… And after that make a decision what’s next. I think some call it soul searching, so that will be fun.
But now… time to relax without triathlon training.

In the end, I want to thank you my sponsors, that have been a big help this year again, that I could be able to race here in Phuket, but the biggest thank you goes for sure to my coach, husband, who always is there helping me in the training and racing. He makes the difference for me in this game, with his knowledge and support.
