Believe it or not… I start my race season, tomorrow!
It’s been a year since my last race, as I did not recover well of my injury in Kona, Hawaii last year, and so I decided with my coach not to race until I am 100% fine again. And now I am, and tomorrow I will rock!!!
Weihai, a town on the east coast of China, by the Yellow Sea, is an experienced “triathlon city” in China. They have hosted many competitions in the town, and are doing it well… on the Chinese standard… We europeans are not so sure about that
The race tomorrow is 4k swim, 120k bikeride and 20k run, so a bit different form the normal 70.3 or Ironman distances.
Sounds ok, a bit longer than 70.3, BUT I can tell you, this race is something else… IT IS A TUFF COURSE. Starting with the swim; 4k in the beautiful flat bay, in wetsuit…23,5 degrees… it’s gonna be warm swim… but ok, always great in a wetsuit anyway, specially if you were not “born as a swimmer”
The ride is going to be great and really something. Along the beautiful coast, into a town with 4 lanes closed, parts with many turns and parts with the best road conditions that you can hope for…….and hills, many hitting over 10% and the longest of 2km that has 2 parts up to 12%…….and fast descents.
The same in the run…up and down it goes, and so this will be as tuff as an easy full IM. Time to get ready to perform and endure.
But hey, that is what it is all about, doing a race you like, and it is always cool to be with in the World Championships!
I feel again proud to be able to be with in a race with some of the world’s best triathletes, and it has been fun all the week to have had possibility to hang around with the guys that my coach works with, Allan Steen Olesen, Rasmus Petræus and Crowie,
(and Jens Toft also in the photo but not on same coach) Just nice people and really pro…I truly believe the winner is in this photo.
Tomorrow, Sunday at 9 local Chinese time (03.00 in Denmark)the gun will start the race, for agegroupers… Time to rock’n roll!!!
